
| Roswell Daily Record KOB TV HAGERMAN, NM - An unsuspecting New Mexico educator was surprised this afternoon by New Mexico Assistant Secretary of Education Dr. Patricia Parkinson with an unrestricted $25,000 Milken Educator Award at a surprise school-wide assembly.
Mr. Jesus Trujillo, Agriculture Teacher in Hagerman, New Mexico, was recognized today for his dedication to education, for his teaching techniques, and for the character and respect he brings to the classroom "Mr. Trujillo sees agriculture as hands-on application and reinforcement of your core subjects like math, history, and writing," said Assistant Secretary Parkinson. "Your students see you as fair, consistent, trustworthy, respectful, and caring. In conversations with your colleagues and your students, they tell me that they all see you as a role model and as a leader that embodies the spirit of community and dedication to excellence." Mr. Trujillo currently holds a position on the national Future Farmers of America's (FFA) advisory committee, and has demonstrated his leadership in the community by working with legislators and higher education administration to strengthen school programs. In order to surprise Mr. Trujillo, the assembly was called to have the New Mexico Public Education Department congratulate Hagerman on making Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). The prestigious award honors the exceptional work of this educator as a model for the state and nation. The event is part of the Milken Family Foundation's 21st annual National Notifications Tour, honoring more than 80 outstanding educators as 2007 Milken Educator Award recipients.
